Predictions League help

Help for the Predictions League: you follow one club, predict the score and scorers for each of its matches, and collect points all season. For signing in, notifications and your account, see Help and troubleshooting. Each game can set its own rules, so your game’s Rules screen in the app always has the final word.

Predicting

Fixtures arrive on their own. Your game’s fixtures, kick-off times and cup draws come from our football data feed. A new fixture, such as a cup tie once the draw is made, joins your game without anyone adding it.

Deadlines follow the kick-off. If a match is moved, for example for television, the prediction deadline moves with it. Each fixture shows its deadline and a countdown. You can change your prediction as often as you like until then; the last one saved counts.

Scorers. You pick scorers from your club’s squad, which we keep up to date. If a player is missing, or someone is listed who has left, email us and we will sort it.

The Joker doubles your points for one match. Your game’s rules say how many you have in a season; the app shows how many are left.

Missed a deadline? A match you did not predict scores nothing. If you asked the person running your game in time, they can enter your prediction for you, and it is marked as entered for you.

Season picks

Three picks, made once: where your club finishes at a checkpoint during the season, where it finishes at the end, and your club’s top scorer. They close at a time your game sets, and the app reminds you beforehand if you have not made them all.

The Season picks screen has a table of everyone. Until all members have made all three, or the closing time passes, you see your own picks in full and, for everyone else, which picks they have made. Then everyone’s picks are shown.

Once predictions close

Everyone’s predictions appear at the deadline. Until then you can see who has predicted, but not what. That goes for the people running your game too: they can enter a prediction for you if you ask, but they cannot see anyone’s until the deadline.

Closing early. If everyone is in before the deadline, the person running your game can close predictions early so the group can see them straight away.

Sharing. Tap Share the predictions to send everyone’s picks to your group chat as a picture, with the details written out for phones that cannot share a picture.

Scores and the table

Results come in automatically. After the final whistle the score and scorers arrive from our football data feed and points are worked out straight away, usually within half an hour. Nobody in your group needs to enter anything.

Sometimes it takes a little longer. If the scorers we receive do not yet add up to the score, points wait until they do or until we have checked the match ourselves.

Every point is explained. Open a fixture to see what each prediction was worth and why: the result, the exact score, each scorer and the Joker.

Corrections. If a result or a scorer is corrected later, for example a goal credited to a different player, points are worked out again and the table updates.

Cup ties. Each game decides whether a cup tie counts at 90 minutes or after extra time. Penalty shoot-outs never count as goals.

Level on points. Members on the same points are separated by exact scores, then correct results, then scorers. The table says so when it matters.

Manager of the Month is a table of the points scored in each calendar month, with its own winner.

Postponed and abandoned matches

Postponed. Your prediction, and any Joker you played, is kept. When the match gets a new date it reopens until the new deadline, unless your game is set to keep predictions as they were once everyone’s picks have been revealed. The person running your game can tell you which.

Abandoned. Any points for the match are withdrawn. If it is replayed, it reopens like a postponed match.

Notifications in a Predictions League

  • Prediction reminders: before predictions close, if you have not predicted. By default 48, 24 and 2 hours before; your game can choose other times. Each one says when predictions close.
  • Season prediction reminders: two weeks, one week, 48 hours and 24 hours before they close.
  • Kick-off moved or postponed, with the new deadline.
  • Predictions are in: at the deadline, to see what everyone went for.
  • Your points after each match: your points, your place and who is top.
  • Everyone’s in: for the people running the game, when every prediction is in before the deadline.

Turn any of them off in Account. See Notifications for setting them up.
