Last Man Standing help

Help for Last Man Standing: each round you pick one team to win. If they win you are through; if not, you are out. You cannot pick the same team twice, and the last one standing wins. For signing in, notifications and your account, see Help and troubleshooting.

The person running your game can change several of the rules, such as whether a draw survives. Your game’s Rules screen in the app always has the final word; this page describes the standard settings.

Joining

Open the game from your home screen and tap Join Last Man Standing. You can join until round one’s picks close. After that, ask the person running the game: they can add you, and it is their call.

Some games allow more than one entry each. Each entry picks and survives on its own.

Making your pick

One team, one round. Each round is usually a weekend’s fixtures, Friday to Sunday, from the leagues your game uses. Pick one team; the opponent is always shown, and your team has to win.

Each team once. A team you have already used is greyed out. If you ever run out of teams you could pick, your list starts again.

Change your mind until the deadline. You can change your pick as often as you like until picks close. The last one saved counts. Nobody sees anyone else’s pick until then.

The deadline is shown on the pick screen with a countdown. By default picks close at 19:00 on the Thursday before the round; some games close a set number of hours before the round’s first kick-off instead.

When picks close

Everyone’s picks appear at the deadline, on the game screen.

No pick? If you have not picked by the deadline, you are given the bottom team of the lowest league in play, and it is marked as given to you. Some games put you out instead.

Someone else entering your pick. If you send your pick to the person running the game, they can enter it for you. Before the deadline it shows as entered by an admin, and you can still change it in the app until picks close. They cannot see your pick before the deadline, so if you have already picked and they enter one for you, theirs replaces yours: tell them if you have picked.

Late picks. If you missed the deadline for a good reason, the person running the game can enter a pick for you until the round’s results are in. It is always shown as late.

Sharing. Tap Share the picks to send everyone’s picks to your group chat as a picture, with the details written out for phones that cannot share a picture.

Results and who is through

Results come in on their own. Each pick is marked won, drawn, lost or called off from our football data feed. Once every match in the round has finished, the round settles: usually within half an hour of the last final whistle, and never more than about fifteen minutes after the results arrive. Nobody in your group has to enter anything.

A draw puts you out, unless your game says a draw survives.

Lives. Some games give each entry a life or two: a defeat uses a life instead of putting you out.

Survivors shows who is still standing and, underneath, who is out and in which round, with every pick once its round’s deadline has passed.

The next round shows on the game screen before it opens: its dates, how many fixtures it has and when picks are likely to close. It opens once the current round’s matches are over.

Sharing the result. Once a round has settled, tap Share round N’s result for a picture of every pick with its score, and who is through and who is out.

Postponed or called-off matches

If your match is postponed, abandoned or moved out of the round, you survive the round, but you need two picks next round, and both must win. If one of those is called off too, you need three. A match moved to another day inside the round is simply played later, and your pick stands.

Some games treat a called-off match differently: you survive with no extra pick, or you go out. Check your game’s Rules.

Everyone out, and the winner

The last one standing wins. The game ends when only one entry is left, and no more rounds open.

If everyone left goes out in the same round, they are all back in and play on. Some games share the win instead, or draw the winner at random from them. If there is a draw, the person running the game presses a button and the app makes the draw; it is recorded with everyone who was in it.

If the season’s fixtures run out with more than one still standing, they share the win.

Sharing the winner. When the game is won, tap Share the winner for a picture of the winner’s picks, round by round.

Coming back in

In games that allow it, an entry that goes out can ask to come back in, usually during round one only. Tap Ask to come back in on the game screen; the person running the game says yes or no. Teams you have already used stay used.

Paying

Terrace Tally never handles money. If your game has an entry fee, you pay it to the person running the game, the same way you always have. The app only lets them tick off who has paid, so everyone can see the list is straight.

Notifications in Last Man Standing

  • Pick reminders: before picks close, if you have not picked. By default 48, 24 and 2 hours before; your game can choose other times. Each one says when picks close.
  • Round results: whether you are through or out once the round settles. If a corrected result changes your result, you get a short correction.
  • The winner: when the game is won.

Turn any of them off in Account. See Notifications for setting them up.

Corrections

If a result is corrected after the round has settled, the round is worked out again from where everyone stood, as long as the next round’s picks have not closed. After that, members have picked on the strength of the first result, so nothing changes automatically: we look at it with the person running your game.

For the person running it

  • Starting a game: in the console, choose Last Man Standing, pick the leagues and rules, then press Start the game. Rounds then open, lock and settle on their own every week.
  • Picks, on the Round tab: make your own pick, or enter or replace one for anyone who sends you theirs. Before the deadline it shows as entered by an admin and they can still change it; you cannot see what anyone else has picked until then. After the deadline, a pick you enter is late and always shown as late, and you can enter one until the round’s results are in.
  • Members: enter anyone in your friends group at any time with Enter someone, withdraw an entry (it stays on the record), and decide on anyone asking to come back in.
  • Paid list: tick off who has paid, with the amount; the total shows under the Members table and on the Round tab.
  • Moving an existing game: on the Round tab, import the current round from a spreadsheet with four columns: Name, Email, Pick and Paid. The file covers that round only. You see a preview before anything is saved, and someone without an account is held against their email until they sign in. From the next round, everyone picks in the app, or you import each round the same way.
  • Changing the rules: a change applies from the next round, except the deadline: a new deadline rule also moves the open round’s deadline, as long as its picks have not closed. You can also move one round’s deadline on the Round tab.
  • Round history: every settled round stays on the Round tab: who went through, who went out and why.
  • Notifications: choose what your game sends, and when pick reminders go, on the game’s Notifications tab. You can also see who can be reached, so you know who to chase another way.

The Guide walks through each screen.
